2018 Committee Chairs
We are delighted to announce the new committee chairs for 2018. These thirteen individuals have a range of backgrounds and the Board of Directors are excited to see what they accomplish this year.
Sponsorship: Gary Groenewold + Glen Allen
Captain Gary Groenewold is Vice President for Westrec Marinas, one of the largest owner/ operators of marinas in the United States. He is responsible for all operating issues, business development, and acquisitions throughout Florida, the Caribbean, South and Central America.
Glen Allen’s career began as a racing sailor in Biloxi, Mississippi, followed by 4 years of selling sailboats as well as working as a sailing instructor. He then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard for a 4-year tour and was based in Puerto Rico serving as quartermaster. Currently, he is managing director of Fleet Miami with 9 yachts in the fleet.
Marketing: Kristen Klein + Melissa Orlick
Kristen is a Yacht Sales Broker with Northrop & Johnson Yachts-Ships, Inc. based out of the Fort Lauderdale, Florida office. Kristen has a BS in Environmental Science as well as a MBA from the University of Florida. Prior to her career in yacht brokerage Kristen worked as a Chief Stewardess on superyachts for over six years.
Melissa Orlick is the Director of Maritime Communications at IsoTropic Networks. A native of the Midwest, and growing up in Illinois, Melissa graduated from Loyola University (Chicago) with a BA in Communications. In 2011 Melissa joined the family business, IsoTropic Networks, and moved to Florida to spearhead the maritime market and create a superyacht sector.
Membership: Jim Gilbert
Jim Gilbert is an industry veteran with a wide array of experience within the global large yacht market. His major contribution to the industry came as founding Editor-in-Chief and later President and owner of ShowBoats International, which he and his partners sold to the Robb Report in 2005. In January of 2016, Jim came out of semi-retirement to take over as President of Christensen Shipyards, where he now manages 120 boatbuilders producing 40-50 meter yachts.
Education: Clive McCartney + Pete Southgate
Born and raised in Haslemere England, Clive left school at 18 to join the Royal Navy before attending Cambridge University on a cadet scholarship. Clive subsequently held management positions at NCL and Carnival Corporation before joining Fraser Yachts in 2004 where he spent 13 years on the yacht management team servicing over 60 yachts worldwide. Clive joined Bluewater Yachting in October 2017 as Vice President Marine Operations & Business Development.
A Shipbuilder, Naval Architect and Marine Surveyor with over 30 years experience in the Maritime Industry, Pete Southgate is now the Managing Director at Southgate Maritime. Southgate Maritime specializes in providing regulatory services to the maritime industry.
Gala- Design & Leadership: Ellen Anderson + Bob Saxon
Ellen Anderson graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Philosophy. Prior to the yachting industry, Ellen spent seven years flying as a corporate flight attendant for Gulfstream Aerospace out of Savannah Georgia. This unique position allowed her to increase her knowledge and skill for the finger points of high-end service and luxury guest comfort. In 1990, Ellen joined the yachting industry and has played an active role in the development of Wright Maritime Group.
Bob Saxon is an industry icon with over 35 years of executive level activity in the yacht management, yacht charter, charter management, marketing and crew sectors. He is the founding president of ISS and is a recipient of its distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award. The onset of Bob’s global yachting experience began as Vice-President of the pioneer yacht management group, Whittemore & Williams; continued as President of The Sacks Group; and onward with his own firm Bob Saxon Associates which he later sold to Camper & Nicholsons International. Bob is now the Vice President of Yacht Management, Crew Placement and Charter, Administration at Marine Max.
Events: Norma Trease
Norma Trease is a veteran of the large yacht industry with over 30 years of experience and is a well-known journalist in yacht and financial press. Over the past decade, she has worked as a business development and marketing specialist, helping numerous large international firms access and enhance their yacht portfolios. Her company, Yacht Knowledge, specializes in strategic planning, executive placement, marina and commercial development.
Technical: AJ Anderson + Pete Southgate
Captain AJ Anderson, current President of ISS, has 40 years of experience as a Merchant Marine Officer. AJ holds the post of Chief Executive Officer of Wright Maritime Group (WMG). WMG is a large yacht operations and management company with yachts up to 138 meters (450ft), operating globally.
Association Alliance: Ken Hickling
Ken Hickling, past President of ISS, has been on the executive board since 1998 and has over 25 years in the superyacht industry. Ken is now the Director for Sherpa63 which helps businesses drive success and improve performance.

Oversight: Michael Moore
Michael Moore has practiced maritime and aviation law for over forty years. Before founding the law firm Moore and Company, Michael was a partner with Holland and Knight and chaired that firm's Marine and Aviation practice. He has been frequently cited by the South Florida Business Journal as one of the 100 Most Influential South Floridians.
